There are many ways you can help primates in the entertainment industry!
Encourage companies that use apes in their advertising to find alternate methods to promote their products. Many of these companies are well-intentioned but do not know how their advertising campaigns affect the animals involved. In fact, many companies do not use apes in their advertising or have pulled ads involving apes as a result of public outcry. Write the companies that do not use apes in their advertising and give them a pat on the back!
Another common place to find privately owned great apes is in a photo on the front of a greeting card. If you see a greeting card with a chimp, orangutan, or other nonhuman primate that appears to be in an unnatural setting, there is a good chance that it is a privately owned animal who's physical and/or social needs are not being met. Please do not buy these cards, and write a letter to the greeting card companies to encourage them to stop providing these private primate owners with financial support.
It's easy to write to those companies using primates. Click here for sample letters you can copy and paste and send to companies who have used chimpanzees or orangutans in movie or television productions, greeting cards or print ads.
